Toyota to recall over 720,000 cars in Japan
Reuters / May 21, 2003
TOKYO -- Toyota Motor Corp., the world's third-largest automaker, plans to recall 724,419 cars in Japan spanning nine models including the popular Crown due to a gearbox glitch that could cause steering problems.
Toyota did not disclose the estimated cost of the recall.
There has been no report of any accident from the defect, a Toyota spokeswoman said. She added that the recall resulted from two customer complaints that the steering wheel was making an unusual noise.
The cars to be recalled are certain versions of the Crown, Mark II, Chaser and Cresta built between March 1995 and February 1999. Some Crown police cars will also be recalled.

but see how quick...2 complaints and that's all it took...no questions ...just recall...that's the way a car company shows responsibilty I say...not hundreds of incidents with an attempt to "settle" issues through a cusotmer service line..
this is the way a recall was meant to work imo  !!!!!

yeah but how many people actually took their complaints to Toyota Canada ... hmmm...perhaps a lobbying effort by a signifigant car enthusiast club in Canada would be helpful 8)

Prafull:
I HAVE officialy complained about my paint to Toyota Canada..
I also spoke to 'someone' who worked for Toyota Canada at Scotties last meet who essentialy told me that since the Celica's body construction was made out of galvanized steel (apart from the top) it wouldn't rust.
The fact is that this Gen Celi costs nearly (If memory serves) 10K less then the previous gen. Everyone of which that I have seen still have PERFECT paint (I've checked)..
..

this is grounds to launch a lobbying effort...if we organize ourselves properly then we have a chance at being taken seriously...perhpaps we should kick this around and see where it goes...8)
