Guys, Gals...read this...tell me who would be up for going there this Sunday (night ofcourse :devil:)
Surrounded by screaming teens in pitch-dark passages, you stumble through fog along dank walls that open occasionally to reveal ghoulish scenes: A beheaded body being fitted with a new head by an evil-looking wizard, gibbering ghosts that appear out of nowhere, a funeral coach that you must crawl through. You're in the Haunted Barn on Chappell's pumpkin patch at Crown Hill, beside Hwy. 400, just north of Barrie. It's an experience you'll remember but may not want to repeat.
Haunted barns, pumpkins to pick, wagon rides, magic shows, animals to pet, corn mazes and trike tracks, all are big business on many Ontario farms in the weeks before Halloween.
The Chappell farm has all of the above but is becoming especially noted for its Haunted Barn, which attracts thousands of older kids and parents every autumn.
There's keen competition among farmers in the agri-entertainment business to design and operate ghoulish Halloween attractions. Cathy Chappell, daughter-in-law of farm owners Bruce and Pauline Chappell, came up with ideas and designs for this particular barn. It uses an ingenious combination of electronics, lighting, sound effects, mechanical gadgets and even some live actors.
The Haunted Barn, open only on weekends and evenings, is just one of the reasons for a visit to the Chappell farm in October.
On weekdays, all through the month, parents with small kids pay $4 each to come to the farm, pick a pumpkin from a 60-acre field, and enjoy a list of other attractions.
There's the Boo Barn -- a mini-version of the Haunted Barn, with pleasantly scary experiences suitable for younger visitors. Also included are wagon rides, a Trike Trak with small vehicles to ride, friendly farm animals to pet, a jumping castle, a Nanny-Goat Mountain where goats climb catwalks up a big silo, a miniature village and play areas with ropes to climb.
Favourites with kids and even some parents are the corn maze and bale run.
Made up of acres of very tall closely planted live corn stalks, the maze has twisting narrow passages that challenge you to find your way out. The bale run is exactly that -- rows and rows of huge circular hay bales, packed closely together for running and jumping.
On weekends and evenings from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. until Halloween, admission price is $8. This includes a trip through the infamous Haunted Barn and, on Saturdays and Sundays, magic shows at 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. as well as all the other farm attractions plus a pumpkin, the biggest one you can carry out from the field.
In a big open-sided pioneer barn, you can buy sweet corn, squash, gourds, farm vegetables, home baked goods, straw bales and other items for Halloween decorating.
Chappells have been farming at Crown Hill since 1832. Besides the 100-acre pumpkin farm, Bruce Chappell and his son, Lloyd, cultivate 400 other acres of cash crops such as soybeans, canola, corn, wheat and barley.

Unbelievable...... my parents live 2 minutes down the road from that place. Never actually been to the Halloween the do every year, but just driving by it does look awesome.
Brandon and I actually did some Nitrous test runs past that place earlier this year LOL!

Being that the majority of the meet is outdoors, and yes, although the haunted barn is a covered venue, the corn-fields, pupmkin patch etc, aren't....So...
Who's still in?? I looked outside and it's stoppped raining...it looks like over the term of the afternoon we should be fine..just don't wear anything you can't afford to fall down in :giggle:
By the way...i still am up for going..this is such a sweet opportunity, and it's not open next weekend (Sat is Nov. 1)
pra, Mike and I are meeting at yonge and york mills for 6:00pm at the shell gas station to go up to barrie for the halloween meet, try to meet us there! pra 416 791 6996

yep...this one kinda fell apart...but that's ok...
we decided to go kart racing @ the 401 Mini Indy...that was a bust too...it took us an hour to find the place...:roll: even tho the place was clearly signed :giggle: ...YES I was leading :giggle:
hmm...starting to see a pattern here...i led the fall tour...peeps got lost...i led the convoy last night to the 401 mini indy...got lost...strictly coincidence folks 8)
so when we finally got there the wait was like 45 min, we were like :shock: ...so we left...we hit up the old coffee tea or me out near YOrkdale...that was aight....
and then our night kinda ended...but it was cool...we had a small intimate group...good company, good times...thanks guys :thumbup:
