Hello people!
I want to purchase a 00'-01' Celica GT 5spd in the following weeks (maybe months). I was wondering about a few things.
Is there any problems I should be aware for that model year?
What is the 0-100 time?
Is there a supercharger for the GT?
How much?
When installed how much more hp/torque is gained?
Anyone from Montreal or the area?
---
I want to get the GT instead of the GTS for 2 reasons, I heard the GT-S Yamaha engine is not "as" reliable and I don't have the extra $4000-5000 for the GT-S...
---
This place looks cool!!
Bye!

haha there is a couple guys from montreal who I'm sure will ring in here.
THere is a supercharger for the 1zz engine (which is the GT engine) however the supercharger won't clear the hood at the current time. There is another TRD hood coming out which is suppose to accomidate for the supercharger.
When installed its not much to be honest. I think its like 40hp and probably around the same torque, reason being its not really intercooled or anything (just added a 5th injector).
That engine has been known to burn oil at times and actually blow the engine from oil starvation. However its not common that every 3rd gt has it. Its pretty hit and miss. I think about 3 people on the site have had the problem.

Another quick question...
I am looking at some pictures and I really do like this body kit.

Can someone give me the name, price and maybe a place where I could get it from?
Thanks.

If the supercharger is a bad idea, is the Turbo better? If so.... price?

actually thats the TRD kit. They make a replica for the side skirts and rear but its not quite the same.
The parts are stupid expensive new however there was a lot of TRD cars pumped out from the factory so a lot of people on say www.newcelica.org are selling their for something more show or aggressive and you can usually get it at a fair price (say $400 or so for the front, around the same for the sides and not sure about the rear).
Brand new from Toyota they cost like $1,200 for the front. Sides are the same and I forget the rear. However as I mentioned there are lots of different ways to get em. I strongly would say get em used to save yourself the cash

haha actually I'm the site admin so yeah I like the site :P
Turbo is a good idea. It'll be about 5 grand for a good setup. There are a couple kits offered for the GT. Personally I wouldn't get any of the kits as I would want local support. Once you go forced induction I personally feel you should have local support. What I'm trying to say is find a local shop that does boosting and has a good reputation and get them to do one for you.
Turbo is definately a better way to go for the GT

Oh really... hummm...
How much hp/torque boost is it from the 140/125 normal engine setup.
Is there a "chip" for Celica's like there are for many other cars?
If so... what kinda boost can you expect and what price?

Man... I already got more answers to my questions in the past 10minutes then I have over the past 3 days looking around on sites...

welcome! unfortunatley no chip.... i will be going with the TRD SuperCharger early next year, as the hood will be on the porduction line in early may. but your best bet is turbo!

I actually won't be doing an engine upgrade till next summer either. I plan on getting the car, paying it off by septembre, max tints, those metal pedals  , probably a cooler shifter knob and finaly maybe some xenon lights...
Voila...!

with a Turbo you'll get somewhere from 200-220hp at the wheels so about 100hp increase from the stock 140 at the crank.
Again a turbo will probably run about 5k

Sweeeet! That's what I will do.
But I hear Turbo's do more damage then superchargers. Is that true?
By the way "Burrcold" I just love your car!!!!

Don't get TOO hung up on the HP game with the Celi. It's real forte' is the handling..
The other option you have is NO2.. However your insurance company might strenuously object.....

Welcome to C7! Glad you found us!
SyChO just by looking at your avatar makes me want to hurt you.
...jk lol
I personaly got the GT because more mods ara available..and you can do so much more like Turbo or a Supercharger, and remember TRD Supercharger is the most reliable thing out there....
and its instant torque, instead of measly 120(on real dyno) you will hit 160-170 with the TRD supercharger, which is awesome.
GTS is already tuned, it has its own little supercharger which is the Lift :P (i know the gts ppl will run at me, but its true)
GTS kinda has its own factory tuned super mod +40hp.
oh and turbo is kinda risky, its a 50/50 win/lose situation. you can run it for 50k and it will be nice, u can run it for 2km, and it will blow your engine. meh.

I was thinking the same about yours!!!

I feel the same about the GT, I have been looking at prices for the past weeks and even months now. I noticed the $4000-$5000 price difference between the GT and GT-S and I don't think its worth the extra debt. I want to first start by owning the damn car then worry about mods but the supercharger is my fav choice. I heard after market turbos aren't all that (reliability).
I want to do these changes over many years...
2004: Buy the car! Put tints, change the shifter knob, metal pedals :?
2005: Either put the supercharger or a body kit "kunamiam thingy"
2006: Do whichever one I didn't do yet...
2007: Mags (maybe earlier)
2008: Enjoy the car
2009: Buy a Mazda3Speed
---
I just wanted to say that before I made this recent decision to get a Celica, my goal for the past weeks was to "lease" a Mazda 3 Sport GT. But my father convinced me and showed me the negative aspects of paying "for nothing". Therefore hopefully by 2008-2009 there will be a Mazda3Speed Twin Turbo AWD that I will be able to afford...

Welcome to the Site 8) .. update your profile with your real name too... and yes..that avatar is creepy :giggle: ... but hey..it works !!
You're going to love it here @ C7..in addition to a wealth of knowledge, experience, adn contacts...you'll shortly be meeting Charles (who actually works @ a Toyota Dealer in the Montreal area...he can help you get the best deal and help you with local dealer type issues too!!)
Our Montreal members are hardcore too!! 2 of them (Sandro & Many) have the most technically advanced suspension upgrades installed (not to mention the most expensive :giggle: ... the infamous Hotchkis TVS system )
Enjoy your stay, and welcome to C7

Welcome to the site...

What color are you thinking of getting?

I would like a Silver but my dad has a Silver Matrix XR. I guess it would be kind of weird to have two silver toyota's. But a black or blue will also do.
---
I went to a dealership and tried out a 5spd GT and all I can say is a big fat "wow!"... I was so giddy when I got out of the car, all I wanted to do is buy it right there and then!
Just to let you know I have been driving a 93' Protege AUTO, before that a 93' Corolla AUTO... Maybe now you will understand why I am so choked by the speed!
---
On the other hand the car was dirty, the entire rear bumper has to be repainted... so many scratches... the interior was dirty. But what shocked me the most was the fact that some salesman is using it as his own car until they find a buyer... when I got in the car it had the guys clothes, his gf's clothes, her shoes and what not. I find that f$cking stupid! My salesman is like... "he takes care of it, he doesn't drive fast"... BS!
~~ What do you guys think of that? ~~
hard to say, how many km on it?

hard to say, how many km on it?
I say alot... 90,000km.
The guy said it was normal... 24,00km/year * 4 = 96,000km
But I though the average is 20,000km/year?
Anyway, I am going to check out a blue GT today with 71,000km. Hope its been "well threated".

i dont think most people have that luxury  Renting did nothing for me except burn money, no tax-back benefits...

TRD supercharger is expensive, not very impressive, and forces u to cut a fugly hole in ur hood

But I hear Turbo's do more damage then superchargers. Is that true?
By the way "Burrcold" I just love your car!!!![/quote]
not true, what happens with turbochargers is thay people put more "boost" (psi or bar) than the engine can take(LOTS or STRESS!) and they blow it. if you're smart with a turbocharger OR supercharger set up it's no different than a supercharger as far as killing the engine goes. also superchargers have the nasty tendancy to do harm to gas milage, sort've. turbo's, no boost, no more gas.
as for "instant torque" thats not quite true though very close, as for turbo lag it's all about what rpm you want your turbocharger to hit it's peak at. it's a trade off, but it's supercharger lose power less efficiency, or turbo, "lag" and more efficiency.
in 1987 a formula 1 car was making 14 to 15 bhp per cid, a dragster was only making 10 bhp per cid.
:)
read the books "Maximim boost," and "Supercharged," both by corcky bell. great books, great facts, good formula's :)
