This will likely be our first Official Activity Event of the year, so we are very keen on judging interest.

Location: Peterborough, ON
Date: May 3rd, 2003 (time TBA).

Details:
For those of you that DON'T know what a poker run is, here is an overview. At the beginning of the event people are given a sealed envelope with a playing card, and directions to the next pickup location. At each pickup location the particpants are given ANOTHER envelope with a another playing card, and directions to the subsiquent locations.

Traditionaly the person with the BEST hand wins somthing nifty!!! :)

In this case though we are also going to be borrowing a page from the Navigational rally rules, in ALSO offering a prize to:

- The person who comes in with the closest average time (Average speed of 80km/hr).
- Person that shows up last and/or with the HIGHEST finishing Odometer listing.. :D

This WILL be a quite the event. Likely 3-4 hrs in length, and with a selection of some of the best and most senic roads that Peterborough County has to offer, with a get together afterwards for an 'awards presentation' and meal.

An entry fee will be levyed to cover the cost of the prizes and administration costs.

I'm so in on something like this. Also since I have a little insight into the planning just so everyone knows we are expecting the cost to be around $25-30, this would cover the cost of something like a buffet and prizes to the event.

Also the event will be timed and the cars aren't going to be released at the same time .. there will be a couple min differences therefore to keep the roads somewhat clean from 30 cars trying to plow down the road at once

Wow, this is going to be an EXCELLENT meet! I can't wait. The navigational component will also make your co-pilot useful, and we get to see who can actually "drive" :)

Can we use maps though?

I can vouch for the roads in that area. Great driving roads for the Celica's sweet suspension and very senic for your passenger :D

Im totaly in.
Can we use maps though?

You can use anything except GPS.

brandon6976
03-09-2003, 07:47 PM
yep.. you can bring your own map .. but the idea is that you won't know where you're going till you hit every checkpoint .. at which point you'd get a map to the next checkpoint ..

It should be some good fun. The only real big details we have to work out is figuring out how many people can come and how the food arrangements, once that is fixed up we'll be able to ask people for the fee's to be able to pay for food and such.

Piotrov
03-09-2003, 07:52 PM
So im guessing you need a navigator for this :|

brandon6976
03-09-2003, 07:56 PM
not really .. i don't have one yet for sure .. you should be able to read a map, the reasons for a navigator is to basically so if you go to a checkpoint you just hop in grab the map and the navigator can figure it out while you drive

Piotrov
03-09-2003, 08:01 PM
Dont want to be the only one without a navigator :D

Sounds like tons of fun now i really want summer to come!

Piotrov
03-09-2003, 08:20 PM
Big list already. The place is gonna be packed with celicas LOL
What if someone starts following someone else?
or are we gonna go out in 2 or 3 minute distances?

brandon6976
03-09-2003, 08:22 PM
yep it will be a staggered start so there isn't a rush of cars .. people might catch up to others obviously .. however following someone isn't going to garentee anything .. if you follow someone going the wrong way it'll just put you back further lol

Piotrov
03-09-2003, 08:27 PM
Very true!
Its a Great idea!
really got me hyped up about it.
If im working ill take the day off.

B-GTS, Piotrov:
We are planning on providing both directions, as WELL as milage between check-points. So if you are soloing the milage will give you an indication of where to start looking for your turn (or indeed, if you've already passed it). :D

Man..sub...this sounds so kewl!! I've read about these runs, but never had the chance...I wonder if we'll use c7 logos or somethin'? That would be nice...spread our fine wares all over Peterborough ..hee hee... if I can I really wanna make your trial run ... my car was left @ the dealership over the weekend...opened @ 7:30...and they attacked my problem immediatelyl..called @ 7:36 and they already yanked the battery and are trying to charge up that baby to see if it holds a charge...details to be released...

brandon6976
03-10-2003, 08:03 AM

Hey edge...why not drive down for the weekend..take some time off...I'm sure between the lot of us we could arrange for a place to stay...and you wouldn't regret it...would be a helluva drive tho....

you should consider it..I have a few friends @ work that make the drive out there every few months....IN THE SNOW...lunatics...

but this would be warmer..so give it some thought!!!!!! I'd even be up for setting up a hotel for a load of us to party that day & night...we could really make it a full weekends party event...

Can I take the Grand Cherokee or the Grand Marquis instead?

brandon6976

show up in whatever auto you want .. however keep in mind its hard turns .. Grand marquis would probably be better than a tipping SUV

I'm thinking comfort rather than performance since it will be "scenic" roads and all. The view with the big windows on the Grand Marquis will be ideal.

Hey my first car was an 87 Jetta .. car rocked man .. it was in the family till 99 I think .. it was solid like a rock, no problems and pretty good handling (completely stock)

B-WRX
04-16-2003, 11:29 PM
VW's rule!!!! they dont' still call me B-dub at work for nothing :D
my 86 Jetta actually handled better than my 98. Bullet proof cars with low end torque, especially the VR6!!!

That sucks Faisal. Of course, maybe you're car doesn't really exist, and you drive a Kia. That would explain a lot! Just joking man, you'll be with us in spirit, and hopefully you will weasle out of moving!

As for VW's. They are amazing cars. By Bro bought a 82 of the neighbour for 500 bucks. Put 500km on it IN THE DRIVEWAY (before he got his license). The car started with 350,000kms, and still runs great. A control arm broke though, and he decided to move on. One quck wield job and the car would have gone another half a million kms!

Awesome cars!!!

Ya.. I got hyper and filled out the form yesterday before I checked my day planner  It turns out that my prom is that night... needless to say, there is no way I can run this event. If you could take my name off of the entry list so someone else can fill my spot, thank you. If you guys organize something like this again, post on Toronto subaru club and we could organize an inter-club event.
