Tips and Tricks:
Obviously we would all like to see some C7 Members winning this year at this event. (other then in the 'I got totally friggin lost' category).
Thus here's a quick primer on some of the things to expect:
1) Odo Check:
Durring the first few KM of the even you notice a reference to an odometer check! The purpose of this is to figure out how much your ODO happens to be off that of the Route Master. Different sizes of tires, or just the brand of the car could effect this.
Example: If there is an ODO check at the 10km mark and your odo reads 11km, then your ODO is +10%. Thus you have to add 10% to all of the distances provided to insure that your distances are accurate.
Please don't sweat this too much though. It doesn't have to be a math lesson (if it was, I'd be screwed). It's more preventative maintenance, so that you understand WHY your mileage might be 'off' what is listed as time goes on..
2) Route instructions:
For the most part they are pretty straightforward. However you will get an introduction to some SHORT FORMS. LH = Left Hand Turn, RH = Right Hand Turn, CAS = Commence Average Speed, to name a few. Don't worry. They aren't hard, there are no tricks, and a glossary will be provided for you.
3) Timed instructions.
There are a COUPLE of different types of timed instructions here. (remembered the stopwatch didn't we?). Some will involve covering X distance in X time. Other's will involve the use of time in PLACE of distance instructions.
If you get one of these instructions. Relax. Pull over and figure it out before proceeding. In most cases a bit of math will enable you convert from time to distance. Or just rely on that stopwatch and some guesswork.. Just be sure and have fun!!! :D
