The tires last in solo competitions.
Just seen Brent's post about tires for racing and i was wondering cuz my tires are pretty bad.

They look almost like my tires.
Mine are a bit more worn out on the sides from Shannonville.
Amature driving really kills the tires.
Dident help that it was a hot day. Took me a while to scrub the melted
tire from my side skirt. :D
Any idea how much Toyota charges for the Advans that we got on the
GT-S?

i'm not to sure .. i'm going super cheap (you might want to cheat as well) the GT-S comes with a full sized spare so it has one tire. I only need to replace the fronts (my backs still have plenty of tread, its the front from all the turning and such that are worn) .. so I'm gonna just put on the spare in the spring and get one more rubber to replace the other worn one

Thats a good idea :D
You dont rotate the tires do you?
I like the advans that are on now and would like to stick with them.

yeah why would it matter that the spare has lots of tread. The idea of it is just to get you to a repair shop ...
As for the stock tires are alright .. I rotated my tires but it was far before i started driving the car very hard so it was too early .. but the stock tires wear FAR too quickly .. they definately aren't all season as they claim it is (they suck in rain and snow), I want to spend cash on other things for my car so the tires will go one more season. Most likely next summer I will get some real rubber
Trust me the stock rubber isn't overly great there is much better stuff around

It wears really quickly but because of that you get good traction in dry conditions or thats my theory at least.
Anyone know what the tread wear is on the Advans that the GT-S get?

The tread wear is on the side of the tire and I think it's 220...
that sucks but it's typical of a high performance tire.
However there are much better tires out there than the stock Yoko's.
For the street I'm probably gonna grab a set of Khumo's (cheap and very sticky)
Note: The dealer will rap you on the Yoko replacements.

o.. and to answer your original question, you gotta ask yourself on what you plan on doing this year. If you are gonna do the school and the full autox season of 6-8 race than ya I would get a set of dedicated R-compounds. The school killed my tires more than the 3 races I did last year. The skid pad is brutal on tires, destroyed my fronts in a matter of minutes :(

Damn!
Do you have to do the whole season? cant you just do a couple of events just for fun?
How much do tires go for?
I figured that the dealer would go for the higher price.
Where do you get your tires from?

No worries Peter
You can do as many races as you like. I only did a couple last year to see if I would like it, and now as you can see I'm totally hooked and comitted for this season.
Well you can spend as little as $100 a tire to over $300 a tire. Depends what you want, it's a difficult question to answer. Your best bet is to check out the links about wheels and tires on this site to compare prices. the tire rack.com is good place to learn more about tires.
Typically for a high performance street tire you are gonna spend around $200 per. I think we can get the Khumo's for around $150, have check yet.
Once I pick a tire, I shop around to see who can get me the best deal. Hell I bought my winter tires at Costco cause they were the cheapest at $160/tire.

hey just a thought here would it be an idea to get a set of rims so you'll have a second set of front's for your car with some cheap rubber .. I mean if it goes bald it wouldn't matter cause you're on the track anyhow ??
Or is this a bad idea ?

It's all about balance, so it's generally not a good idea not to have matched sets front and rear.
I was thinking of running my stock Yoko's this year on the track to burn them into slicks, but that would require me to spend $$$$ on 17s or 18s for the street.

so maybe some GT Rims front and back would be alright and let them burn into slicks ..

That's why I'm going for 15" rims for racing they give you the best selection of R-compounds for our car. btw: R-compound tires are usually cheaper than high end street performance tires.

aren't the stock gt-s summer tires only?
while the gt stocks are all season.
