I will of course be there once again!
I discovered a few new kinks in my car at yesterday's HADA event. So I'm going to try to get those worked out this week.
On another note, it looks like my car is going to have a second driver for next week's PITL event. I'll leave the 'who' as a surprise until the event...

Hey Peter, I was just reviewing the regional schedule for the rest of the year.
Looks like there's two big roads trips in August. Are you planning on going to the MCO, and PMSC events? The MCO will be a good one, alot of people will be going up friday night, to run a Pro-Solo on Saturday, and then the Solo 2 on Sunday.

I'll be there.

Ryan, you left too early yesterday! We got a 7th run in. You also missed out on a prize - they pulled your number but, unfortunately, you had to be there to collect.

You had a choice - a free alignment at W&T Zone or $50 @ Kensai Racing for brake fluid or pads.

Well, to quote the great Mad Max movies:
"There ain't no plan mate!"
I haven't figured it out yet. It's too long of a drive to do all in one day. So we'd have to spend at least one night there. I'm still not sure if I'll go friday night and run the prosolo or just go up saturday night for the regional. Todd (blue civic, runs in FSP), is going up on friday, and spending the whole weekend there. I'll probably see if I can crash with him. If not, then I'll look into cheap motels, or maybe even just camp somewhere.
In any case, it's a good 5 hour drive. So, whether I go friday night, or saturday night, I'll want to leave TO no later than 5pm.

but your right.. spending two days there is gonna be quite a long weekend :D
ill still have to look into it.

Well.. i just got back from the PITL.. and what a day!! HOT AS HELL the sun kept pounding on everyone. THe course layout was really cool.. you stayed in 2nd gear almost though half the course!
it was pretty wild as there where two corners that were right along side curbs which made things very interesting.. had only one incidend with a Blue Supercharged Mustang locked up its brakes on a turn and went right into the curb possibly bending its rim. There were 8 runs total plus fun runs. I had to leave after the 7th but time were in the 40's to 50 secound mark.

really fun event about 50 competitors compeeted which isnt alot. thats why there was so many runs.. Sorry i have no pics but the sun was just too harsh and i got too lazy.. if anyone posts any ill link them from here..

Yep, definately a great day. Quite a few tricky corners. I enjoyed the entire course, except for the last 2 or 3 turns (quick left, right, left into the stop box).
"G" was the second driver in my car. It took him awhile to get used to the car, apparently my car is quite difficult to drive, so I'm told! His first run was a 58 because he kept fumbling around with the gears.
Today was all about some extra learning, and improving my speed. Which I managed very well. I set a faster, and faster time on each successive run. It was really great to have somebody else drive the same car, and ride along every run, so we could talk between runs, it definately helped.
I learned that proper braking will improve my speed more than any other single technique.
Well, tomorrow is another COMP event at Bronte Go Station. This time "G" and I will both be driving HIS car. This could be interesting...
Piotrov: You'll be there right? You can't let those Subie's think their unbeatable.

OMG DUDE!
Do I have some stories to tell!
At the COMP event today, there were only 35 drivers entered. We did 6 timed runs, and had tons, and tons of fun runs.
Firstly, I had to learn how to drive G's car. It was a bit of a learning curve cuz it's so different from mine. But after the 3rd run, I pretty much had it down. During the official runs I was about 2 seconds slower than G. But with so many fun runs, I was able to get more practice and much more speed. My fastest time was only .4 seconds slower than G's. I'm pretty proud of that.
But then it got really interesting. By this point, most people had left, except for us, some of the corvette guys, and a group of Subaru drivers. G was taking other people for ride-alongs, so I started hopping into various Subie's and getting rides with them. I made the mistake of getting into Trung's 2004 STI! JEEZ! That thing is ultra-fast!! I got out after the run and I was shaking. I did something really stupid. I asked him if I could drive his car. And unfortunately, he said "yes". That was truely a life changing experience for me. At first I tried to drive like how I drive my car, and G's car. Where I only brake at the very last minute (if at all), what a mistake that was! This car is so ultra fast that you reach each corner, before you even realize what you did wrong at the previous corner! The stock Brembo brakes are HUGE! But they're still not powerful enough to slow the car for the way I was driving it. And at the exits of the turns, you can't get on the throttle slowly enough. At almost every corner exit, I nearly spun the car by just barely touching the gas! All I can say is that I'm glad I drive such an underpowered car... Bet you've never heard anyone say that before?

Sounds like you had a blast Matt! One question though.... who is G? and what does G drive?
STI power is nice eh! I find even in my WRX, I'm carrying to much speed and I'm not breaking early enough for the corners. The turbocharged cars just seem to build up speed so fast and smooth you dont' realize how fast you are going before it's time to slow down for the next corner. I love it though :giggle:

G is short for Guillermo (that's why we call him G).
He drives a Honda Insight. Only mod is a set of R-Compounds.

Sounds like you had a blast matt! Doesnt the corvette club have fun runs for a buck?
WoW.. you drove a STI??? Thats awsome!! I cant even imagen how much power that thing has going trough all the tight corners!
Sorry i missed it

Ah... that guy! So how does the Insight feel? Must be cool off the line, shit loads of torque from that electric motor.

wedge
07-12-2004, 09:33 AM
Well, actually, it's not that much torque afterall. It's a bit slow off the line, and out of very tight corners. I looked on Honda's website, they say the electric motor only adds about 20lbs of torque. So it teaches you to maintain as much speed as possible.
Here's my run times (it was a long course): 88.x, 82.x, 80.x, 79.x, 78.x
My fastest 'official' time put me in 6th place. I was really proud of those times, but then in the fun runs, I just kept getting faster and faster, as I learned how to drive the car, and better ways around the course, my fun-run times were: 76.8, 76.2, 75.9! G's fastest time was 75.5. Just to put things into perspective, the 1st place in our class was a GTI VR6, which scored a 74.x. Sorry I can't remember most of the decimals, but you get the idea.
One thing I really learned is how great R-compounds are supposed to be!
My R's are 3 years old, and the hard compound. He has fresh, brand new, soft R compounds. The amount of traction you get from those is just sick. I can't wait until next year when I actually spring for a set of new tires for my car. I seriously had that car doing some mini 4-wheel-drift action. I think I've finally learned how to tell when the car is using 100% of the traction available.
