My friend said Evolution AP is looking for a car to sponsor it, and asked if i'm interested. The advantage is that they'll mods up my car good, but the disadvantage is that I have to sign a 6 months or a year contract w/ them. I have ownership of the car but they'll have to keep it @ their shop and for shows. And some major mods (i'm guessing expensive mod) i have to chip in money (likely to be 1/3 or 1/2  ). Oh and I need to have a spare car since I won't be driving my celica much anymore. So what do you guys think?? Should I go for it??

Sounds interesting. You should be sure you have a SAY in whether or not you WANT to pay for a major mod. I.e. you sign a contract, they want to add a turbo, you can't afford it, Bang you default on your contract and yer screwed. If you've got a spare car, it seems like this is a pretty cool way to get a phat ride. Of course, just make sure you get to have the final say with everything!

if i was in your situation, i would not sign on. reason being because a.) i bought the celi b/c i want to drive it everyday and make use of it. b.) if i wanted to make a pure showcar, i would have bought a kia or daewoo and mod the hell out of it...it would be unique for sure.

also, watch out for the sponsership type programs where you apply, and if you qualify, you will be required to sign a contract that forces you to buy parts only from your sponser, and only have them install it for you. they can charge whatever the hell they want. i can name a canadian company that deals this way, however i won't do it through here.

you may also wanna consider what kinda taste they have

i find that my taste is way different from all the speedshops i go to

they always suggest something they think is "awesome" or "spectacular"

i usually just nod my head when really i cant wait to step out the door so i can puke my brains out

you will wanna have the same track mind when u start modding..

a while ago there was this website that was offering sponsership to all makes and models. they even "accepted" several stock celicas. i signed up to see what it was about. gave the info and mods list. was accepted and required me to sign a contract and fax it in. i read the fine print. turns out if you were "accepted" you would have to first pay 10grand to the company and then they would further consider your application.

Gotta read those fine prints  . Well Ti Chuot , if you can part with your car 6 months it would be a great way to mod your car for cheap. But just like the guys said read the contracts carefully , and good luck.

yeah read the contract very carfully. Also unless you know what mods they want to put on and know how much money they will be expecting from you I wouldn't do it

I'm looking at a sponsorship deal at the moment, cant say too much as its not all finalised. But they want to supply their parts for free and I undertake to show my car at as many meets as I can and be available for magazine write ups if they cane get them.

Hopefully this wont turn out to be a 'bummer contract' job, will know more within the next 2-3 weeks hopefully. There's meant to be special prices for the UK Celica Club through this, so obviously that counts here as well! will keep you posted.
