1:10 am this morning:
left my girlfriend's house, heading towards the 24hr mcdonald's just west of highway 7 and leslie. i make a legal left turn at the light and thus heading westbound on hwy 7. a beige dodge durango suv quickly acclerates when his lights go green and begins to tailgate me for the next few hundred meters. i then slow the car down using the breaks instead of just shifting and the clutch because this guy is still tailgating me. i pull into the plaza and decide to pull into a parking spot so to allow the dodge to pass and go first. he then slams into the back of my car, shattering the passanger tail lamp to pieces. also a little bit of the rear bumper was ripped off, but was still hanging on. my shattered tail lamp glass was everywhere on the ground. we get out of our cars. upon visual inspection of the dodge driver, he looked like bad news. i asked for his information, he gave his insurance card to me. i then called 911 for police assistance as i never had an accident involving another driver. the sketchy character then asked for his insurance card back. i told him i was going to hold it along with my papers until the "insurance agents arrive." he then proceeded to shout out, "what the fuck, give me my fucking papers. i'm not going to drive away. here look at my license plate." i calmly replied "i know you won't, its just a security measure until the insurance agents arrive." he then calls up his cousin and yells at me, "when this is over, you are over as well. i am going to fucking make sure of that." so i call 911 again, report that the person is verbally threatening my life. after hanging up the cell phone, i proceed to tell the guy that i will be getting him arrested for uttering life threatening remarks. (throughout this ordeal there were about 6 cars in the parking lot just watching...what a show...)

york regional police arrive on the scene. a korean and indian cop in two cruisers. they take both our statements. the cops then proceed to question the character, who wasn't being very cooperative. he had the smell of booze on him and when questioned further, replied to the korean cop "fuck you you fucking chink cop. i am going to fucking kill you" etc. etc. obviously you don't mouth off to a cop. so the cop slams him on his cruiser and arrests him.

turns out earlier in the day the police received reports about the dodge suv driving erratically. i talked to the guys cousin and even the cousin admits that he is a messed up person. in his words, his cousin "just doesn't get it."

the guy was taken to the station for a breathlyzer. he will be charged with uttering life threatening remarks, dangerous and/or careless driving. the durango has been impounded, the driver will now have a suspended license etc.

now my car is at the body shop...again
luckily insurance is covering everything. even my trunk won't close properly...

Sorry to hear that. At least that other guy got what he deserved  damn suv's, most people in them don't know how to drive  and tailgating, I won't start on that.

Hope all goes well and fast in repairing the damage

That is just horrible! At least you are ok. It's a good thing you had a cell phone on ya. When we were in Toronto last summer, I witnessed one of those happening on Yonge St. Some guy in beat up rapist van rear ended this other guy in a Protege. The guy was going out of control and yelling at the guy and at one point kicked the door of a Mc. Dick's restaurant. It was some crazy shit, but luckly the cops arrived.

Glad you got his ass arrested

thanks for the support guys and girls. sucks because i need to wait until the insurance company calls me back latest tuesday, and then we have to arrange a trip to the body ship to estimate damages.

brandon: hehe i would like that...but the trusty urethane wings west rear was not even paint chipped

i dunno .. if you get 2000-2002 rear lights I'll settle for like $10 and you can have the ones I did already for the ones toyota will give you. Next time you see me remind me to bring them and you can check them out.

sounds fair. does the $10 include a warranty --> in the future if the paint starts to fade? :D
i'll most likely take it assuming its in perfect condition 8)

if anything,it should have been YOU flipping out on him, instead of what really did happen. I'd be so pissed off with a jerkass like that rear ending me,they'd be lucky to leave the scene alive,or atleast in an ambulance.

Atleast you're ok,and your car is gonna get fixed. :)

Holy smokes!!! What's going on here? First Brent, now you. Talk about bad luck. That really sucks. I was worried for a second when I was reading your post. Luckily you guys didn't get into a scuffle and the cops were there pretty quickly I hope. Thank God for cell phones and at least you are okay and nobody got hurt. Now, what kind of mods are you thinking about? :P

alright just got off the phone with the repair shop.
looks like the same guy will be looking after my car (a previous accident in the snow only 2 months ago  my fault) thus it will be in good hands.

so far the estimate is at $5500!!
need a new rear quarter panel, tailight, trunk will be repaired and painted (wish my hood was somewhat damaged so i could get that repainted too), passanger headlight is off ( :giggle: ). parts will most likely be in stock, so complete repair should take about 10 - 12 days...not bad.

well, i've never been in an accident where i was not at fault. any tips on how to milk more money off the guy that i had arrested? i.e. lost time to go to school & work, can rental, money for new mods etc.

wow...alot happens in 24 hours since I last saw you petey boi!! Glad to hear you're ok...and good move to contact Police immediately...event the police would have told you it wasn't necessary to hold his documents, but I guess it still worked out OK...and you took an impaired driver off the road...

That poor car of yours is going to be completey "re-done" by the time you pass 1 year of ownership...they say after accidents "they'll never be the same" ( the car that is)..but it will prolly open the door for never ended "warranty" covered visits to the dealer...last time I got the rear end of my miata crashed..the frame, and alignment were never "quite right"...but it doesn't sound like yours were critical..

I would strongly recommend you make an appointment to visit your doctor, or the local hospital emergency ward to get your back, and neck examined...you prolly might be feeling some stiffness already...

a rear end collision is almost always the cause of future back discomfort, and neck pain...soft tissue damage caused by jarring and sudden impact is usually hidden for days, sometime weeks, as your body is in "fight-flight" reaction...the muscles tense up to protect the delicate vertibrae in your back & neck, but as the muscles relax, the pain sets in ..and that is serious stuff...if not properly managed in some cases can lead to permanent and severe disability and damage...this is something that needs to be addressed immediately, and by a recognized institution (hosipital perferably)...careful where u go...SunnyBrook is usually an excellent facility..and seems to have been out of the sars issues... when you go explain the nature of the collision, and that you want to be sure that you're going to be OK..they will examine you, and establish a medical report that get's filed..(one that eventually the insurance co. will obtain to help managed and possibly settle any claims you may have"...time is of the essence..and the sooner you go the better for you, and any potential claim you may want to pursue...

The claim is usually handled by your insurance company...considering the severe impairment of the defendant (the drunk driver) in this case..it's a given that he'll be 100% at fault...and you are entitled to the full benefits afforded under your coverage...I'm free later today if you need a ride over to the hospital...it's around the corner from our place anyways...lemme know...

thank goodness your OK...but don't take that for granted..I"ve been in several accidents, and unfortuantely the pain & stiffness set in days after the incident... car's are somewhat fixable..your body's gotta last you your lifetime...

brandon6976
03-31-2003, 08:40 AM
yep I got into a couple accidents .. it usually does start to hurt/feel stiff a week later, but I already had back problems before I got into any accidents hehe

I wrecked my car back in January,I slid into a guy,hit the driver side corners dead on. I pushed back my headlight flap onto the hood, smashed out my turn signal, and pushed my fender back until it hit the door when it opened. Cost was over $2000,and I even supplied my own parts which the stupid bodyshop wouldn't use so they bought me new ones, and they screwed me over every which way,but it's ok,they charged me $1500,and I only paid them $900,and I owe them $600 still, but I'm not paying a cent until he takes me to court. Plus they didn't do what I asked them to and they didn't finish the work, and I had to do most of it myself.

I HATE Shelburne Collision. NEVER EVER take your car there.

Pete you're awesome. Way to keep a level head, and way to call the cops right out of the get go. I'm sure Brent's little experience with his "car stomper" has taught us all that it's always best to call the cops first thing first. Expecially with all the loose cannons in the city.

Hope your new kit will be molded. I think that's the least you could ask for eh?

Yes,not a very pleasant experience for my first accident. Luckily the guy I hit (another studet at my school) and his parents were really nice and understanding, and all they had to say about the crash was "eh,we won't blame you, shit happens,it looks like there was nothing either of you could have done." Things were fine until I went to the bodyshop. :slap:

Anytime...we all gotta lend a hand when & where we can...(hmm..that rhymes... :slap: sorry 'bout that)

When Pete and I went to see the damage it was heartbreaking...Pete never had the chance to see the damage in daylight as he dropped the car there @ night...the trunk's bent (metal actually torn!)...the rear quarter panel is bent as well...and SO FAR the appraiser sees about $6000 of damage...the rear tail light...completely smashed...the bumper scraped...the muffler tip bent...the entire rear quarter panel...if you look @ the car carefully..follow the lines...the rear quarter panel is the same piece of metal that follows the side roofline of the car to the front quarter panel (over the window)!!

Oh well..at least he get's a full fix, paintjob, alignment out of it, plus prolly get a loaner too...the celi will be off the road for at least 2-3 weeks..depending on parts labour, and processing ...if they give him an echo somebody get a pic of that will ya?

...but it was horrible...even the girl @ the shop was in awe @ how beautiful his car was...she said it was the nicest celi she'd ever seen...they parked it between a 2003 LS 400, and RX 300...it was a sad day...

yesterday when prafull and i were at don valley, they told us that the rentel company they deal with (hertz) will give me a car which is relatively close (price range wise) to the gt-s.

insurance called today, and i had to go through their company, discount rentals.

get there this afternoon. was initially offered a mini van...declined and thus they suited me with a chev malibu  oh well, it could have been worse...they had plenty of hyundai sonatos and minivans in the lot.

anyways the person's insurance will be covering my rental fees for up to 40 days! obviously the repairs will not take that long though.

so i visited the body shop again today, and there were 3 other celicas in the lot, including a black/cb? 2003. one silver gt-s with clear corners had its whole rear bumper removed. the other two celicas didn't seem to have any visible exterior damage.
