Okay here is the little teaser post meant to be used as an add on message boards:
If you are using your car for Solo1,Solo2 or have It modified in any fashion, lowering, engine swap, rollbar or just Bling,Bling we have obtained legal insurance coverage for your ride.
If your current insurance company does not know about your motorsport involvment Solo1,Solo2,Rally or your vehicle modifications you will most likely be denied coverage If you make a claim.
You may even be liable for any damages you have caused if you are found at fault in an accident.
If you are hiding the truth from your insurance company we have an answer for you.
We are not just looking for Modified cars to insure. We are looking for every day vehicles as well.
Minivans,pickup's,regular cars etc.
We go into full detail at www.solocanada.ca
Things are still early, and there's alot of unanswered questions. I don't really know much about it myself, except that I require this insurance if I hope to continue all my racing plans. Which is why I'm spreading the wording, and trying to help them suceed. You can get the best answers if you sign up for the solocanada board and ask the questions yourself. Currently, all they are doing is taking a survey. They require 5000 potential applicants before they can start offering coverage. So you all need to sign up for an account on that site, and then fill out the survey.

it sounds cool but it depends on how reasonable they are. If you tell them you have a old civic and they're like .. well since you use it to race we'll charge you 7k instead of revoking your insurance its no good to most people I think.
But it sounds good and hopefully something good comes outta it

They haven't started giving any quotes yet, but the prices are supposed to be very fair. Whether or not you use the car for racing will not affect premiums, because they do not offer coverage during any timed racing event. Which is fine for us, because during any sanctioned racing event we are all protected by the event insurance.
The prices are supposed to depend almost entirely on the drivers record (my opinion, that's how ALL insurance should be). They are not even going to take age or gender into account. Previous estimates for a driver with a clean record was around $1500/year.

poor guy :(
i'm really curious as to how this'll all work... not everyone can just offer insurance without a huge financial backer incase things go sour. Is there any mention of a larger corporation handling the finances?

thats a pretty good question.
I'm gonna start "Brandon's basement insurance" I will take only 3 people and no claims will ever be paid out .. woo hoo cheap insurance
I guess the question would be whats it take to be an insurance company

It's simple actually.
He's been working on it with various lawyers and smart guys of various varieties.
They've been at it for almost a year now. Filling out various legal forms and such. They've got all that finished.
They already have the backing of a national insurance carrier.
The only thing they are missing now is 5000 signed policies, before said carrier will offer coverage.
I'm sure throughout ALL of Canada, they can find 5000 people with modified steet cars, or street driven race cars that will practically be tripping over themselves to get in on this.

yeah I'd be willing. I guess much like most people I'm afraid :giggle:
More that once you've exposed yourself to a company saying you've done ABC to the car you can't take it back and you're hoping not to get screwed  then again a lot of people that do the solo don't have all that much done its more that its just on the track. Though I'd love to get affordable insurance

The NSRA has there OWN insurance as well. Not to mention the requirement that the veichals pass saftey inspection YEARLY..
Personaly I like this. The insurance companys are lazy, greedy bastards..
My own fear is that it falls through, and then you are left looking for insurnace elsewhere.
Insurer: "And whom were you last insured with?"
<< answers >>
Insurer: "Umm.. Yeah... Just go have a seat over there on the bench by the wall. The one marked group 'W'.. Thanks."
Or in other words you'll never get cheap insurance again..
But.. I love the iniative..
