Well, it's finally happening! We're building the rollcage for my Paseo next weekend. Once that's done I will have everything I need to get a CARS logbook, then I'll be ready to start Rallying!

So this is an official call for volunteers. All Rally teams need a good service crew. I dont' really care about having a good crew. At this point, I'll take whoever I can get! Motivated individuals, who are willing to work hard, for the sake of the team, with little or no potential reward. No experience is nessesary, only the willingness to work hard and possibly even bleed for your team. Since we are a budget team, and have very few tools or spare parts, if anything breaks on the car it will likely put us out of the event. So that means your only likely duties will be to setup a service area, change tires, and wash windows. Easy right?
If you are available on any of the following weekends, and are willing to donate your body for abuse, please let me know. I'm hoping for 1 or 2 people as a service crew per event.

Feb 5, 6 - Rallye Perce-Neige Maniwaki (http://www.lino.com/%7erallyperceneige/)<- I think we already missed this one
June 18 - Black Bear Rally (http://www.mlrc.ca/blackbear/)
June 1, 2 - Rallye Baie des Chaleurs (http://www.rallyebdc.com/)
August 20 - Galway/Cavendish Forest Rally (http://gcfr.pmsc.on.ca/)
Sept 9, 10 - Rallye Defi Ste-Agathe (http://www.rallyedefi.com/)
Nov 25, 26 - Rally of the Tall Pines (http://www.tallpinesrally.com/)

I only make 1 promise. Since you are volunteers, the weekend will not cost you a dime. Except for meals (as if there's ever time to eat during a rally weekend anyways!)
Must be willing to be stuffed into a cramped motel room with potentially 2 or 3 other guys (budget team, remember?).

If you have any special skills, or equipment which you feel may be especially helpful to the team, I'd love to hear about it! We have a car trailer of our own, so that is not a concern. At this point in time the most significant piece of equipment we are missing is a service/tow vehicle. Something with enough space to carry the whole team, all our stuff, and pull the car all at the same time.
Almost forgot, since 50% of the series takes place in Quebec, anyone who can Parle Francais would be a great asset.

Everyone who doesn't want to come out to work, should at least come out to events to specatate, and cheer us on! LET'S GO PASEO!!

For now, the car will be running in Production 2 class. So our primary competition will be the works Suzuki Swift team. But they are not likely to run the entire OPRC series, so we stand a good chance at a class victory at the end of the year.
Since we are a budget team, we'll be running on an original 300,000+km engine, which burns more oil than gasoline. We will not spend money to fix this engine. We will just keep adding oil to it until the engine decides to self-destruct. At which time we will install the 4A-GE from our former rally-project MR2. This will move us up to the modified 2wd class known as: Group 2. So the hope is that the current 5E-FE engine lasts until the end of this year, as it would be bad for our title chances if we are forced to change class mid-season.

So? Who is crazy enough to be interested in jumping in on this rally bandwagon while it's still at the ground level?

Congratulations! Hardcore effort, for hardcore volunteers..

This is a great way for anyone interested in the scene to get involved, and see first hand what the action is all about...from the inside out 8)

If your interested Matt, why not writeup a brief paragraph about the project that we could include in our next newsletter going out for April? :)

What sort of certification does your car (not to mention the driver) have to go through?

All the rules/regs and application forms can be downloaded from here: www.carsrally.ca
Once the cage is built, I need to have it inspected by a CARS representitive. If it meets all the regulations, he will issue a "logbook" to the car. That is what will make it a rally car. Then at every event the car will be scrutineered for safety. If the car fails scrutineering, they write down the reasons into the cars logbook, and each item must be repaired or corrected, before the car can ever pass again. The officials of the event also record into the logbook what our result was for the event.
Both the driver and the co-driver need to be a member of a CARS affiliated club. We must pass a first aid course. We must pass a medical exam indicating that we are fit to be in a racing car. Then we can apply to CARS for our regional rally license. Then once we have completed 2 regional level rallies, we will be eligable to apply for our national level license.

I would be interested as well! As long as these dates dont conflict with the Solo 2 schedual I will most likely be in on the help wagon :D
Probably like Brent said. We can get together at the Open House or after it to talk.
Congrads on the team start tho! Great effort and im sure the payback is gonna be great as far as satisfaction goes

Thanks guys.

Amazingly enough, there are no conflicts with any regional Solo 2 events. Which makes me happy too!
Except for GCFR, which conflicts with the Solo 2 Canadian Nationals in Red Deer. I'm still a bit conflicted as to which I would prefer to run... the cost for each would probably be about the same...
