under normal/regular driving, do you shift fast (as in a race) or do you take your time :?:

I shift slowly, usually take my time. But depends on mood like prafull, I'll drive hard sometimes.
Peter you watch Kiddy grade? You big fan of anime(my friend's asking)?

I drive it..
Hard soft, indifferent.. Depends on alot of stuff too. Sometimes I like to drive soft, just to see how much it effects my gas milage and to try and avoid using the breaks (gearing down). Othertimes I drive as agressivly as possible, shifting at the engine's sweet spot..

i double clutch on almost all of my downshifts,I shift smoothly when upshifting, and never ram it in gear. Even when I'm "driving rather briskly against a car which wants to try and go faster than me" I'll almost redline my shifts, but I never bring it right to redline.
I drive my car hard alot of the time, but I drive it like I appreciate it and take care of it.
I do confess to having a VERY heavy right foot though. It's not good....but I swear it's the car's fault. It makes me go fast.

I drive it..
Yes, yes you do. I learnt this weekend why you have half the tread depth that I do, while we both have the same kms, and I used my tires in the winter where you didn't...
I'm going you give you the home court advantage, cause it was dark, I've never been on that road, and everything was a blind corner, but I totally couldn't keep up, and you waxed my ass.

How many of you land in lift during 1-2?

Even with the rev limiter, if you dont shift like a mad man you land right at 6. Which is not in lift, so I was thinking those of you with a SS and no rev limiter. Is it much easier to land in lift with out shifting hard?
CONTROL ONE

yes, it is
i had a gt-s for 3 days and landing in lift even with the stock shifter wasn't difficult at all, oh what a good feeling it was too

Never grinds when I drive her hard, she like it :D
But when I shift it really slow, I can feel it clunk into gear and that is annoying, especially when it's cold out.
As for the 1-2 shift, now that I got the rev limiter fixed I can do it no problem.
If you are having a problem landing in lift, just let it bump the rev limiter and/or hold it there for a couple stutters and then shift into 2nd, you should land at 6500rpm and take off like a crazed mofo
I wanna take it to the track and see which is faster, changing gears just before the limiter and landing lift around 6 to 6.2k or bumping the limiter and landing at 6500rpm. To me bumping actually feels faster, but I don't kno for sure until I hit the track.

depends on mood. though i always shift to land at the proper rpm:speed:gear ratio, except when i'm going fast for any number of reasons. though when i downshift , i almost always heal-toe when appropritate, and rev match is a must.
when i'm listening to a good cd, hit a good part of it, my rpm's will show it... if it's a really good part i'll hit lift if there isn't any traffic... though while i drive her hard, i respect her.
as for landing in lift from 1-2, i can do it, though i always felt slower when i'm tapped out on the revlimiter.
as for the scratching when shifting high from 1-2. that means you probably need a new synchro. it's best to get it taken care of sooner rather than later... i learned how to drive manual, and i suspect the owner did as well on my celica... the 1-2 started scratching, and it only got worse, downshifting to 4th started to scratch and only got worse. i ended up getting a new tranny... it isn't even 1k miles old yet... thank god for warrenty's! though it was a bitch to find a dealler that would honor it.
as for anime.... http://www.gofishpictures.com/GITS2/main.html
i can't wait for ghost in the shell 2! though my addiction has been curbed since i've gotten a car.

i shift fast enough so that it doesn't jerk the car.. but not fast like i was on the 1/4 mile...
i'll go in lift too when i feel like having fun.. lol... but its not an all the time thing... if i have to pass someone i'll rev it high, or if im pissed and wanna drive fast (on country roads ofcourse) but its not an everyday thing...
its fun though...
and i find it makes a grinding noise when in lift from first to second... but thats it..

in daily driving i take it easy, because there is really no need to slam gears when driving around town.
plus it is easier on the drivetrain not to go around slaming gears and dropping the clutch.

only if there's a jolt to the drivetrain (i.e. engine rpm being to high/low as opposed to drivetrain rpm). proper revmatching elimenates it.

my celi likes to shift at higher rpms it prefers over 4000 for smooth shifts but i drive many different ways but i often shift around 4500rpm but yesterday for example i bounced off the rev limiter all day. other days i shift at 3000.

ya but u cannot rev match when shifting up, if u are accelerating and slaming gear and dropping the clutch you are still causing wear because the components have to absorb the shock. it doesn't do as much damage as downshifting but it still is happening.

 yes you can revmatch when upshifting. it's called waitting for the rpm to drop to appropriate level before engaging the clutch.
peace.

I shift as fast as I can as long as I can keep it smooth...even when I run 1/4 miles...I try to keep my shifts smooth, I think it helps me get those high trap speeds.
