yup..got the recall notice about the fuel issue with 2002 GTS's...dunno if it affects other years..but THATS why when I would fill up the stupid tank would always overflow...after a while I just stopped filling at about 42 litres...

gotta take 'er in the dealer soon...anybody else here in Canada get the recall yet?!

THE LETTER was kinda scary....after sorta defining what who, how..the letter went on to say in a worse case scenario could case fire & explosion.. I was reading and then I was like  holy crap!!!!!!!

I am sure its just 1 in a million odds. kinda like cell phones causing explosions at gas stations...

I still don't understand that one . how can a cell phone cause anything to explode ?

there's a lot of details behind the reasoning but the basic idea is that its possible to initiate a fire while using a cellular telephone or through the discharge of static electricity while at the same time fueling.

Yeah, seems unlikely to me. has there ever been a case of a cell phone causing an explosion?

sure ..there are numerous cases...although the findings are never 100 percent conclusive..a lot of the time the concern is that the battery may explode or cause an ignitiion spark with gas vapours, or a dropped cell phone will cause a short and result in an explosion...

it's not safe.

I would never chance it...i like to gamble but not that way..

You must have a gts do you? I think there is only 1 recall for the 2002 gt..

IMPORTANT:

Make sure that you tell the dealer when you go in for the recall that you get spillage at the pump when you fill up.

Its been 5 months since I had the problem, because I have stopped filling the tank to full. I could not completly recall that far back, and when asked, I said it did not happen at the pump, but as soon as I drove away I got the spillage.

They just called me, said the recall does not apply to my serial #. They refuse to fix the problem because the wording in the recall apparently says "spillage at the pump...". Would have been nice if they told me my serial # did not apply when I made the appt.

I didnt actually receive a letter, probaly because of the serial #. When I get the car back, I plan to fill it up, see that it spills at the pump then give them hell.

Mine is actually the GT. One was for the hook on the driver's side floor mats (it could slip and get jammed under the gas pedal - not a good feeling) and the second one is for this gas thing.

thats right, mainly the panasonic edt., and a few other gt 's were missing the hook.

Pete00

so what is the problem?
1.) filling up gas, clicks once and then spillage?

or

2.) filling up gas, clicks once, click it two more time to even it out, and then spillage?

i've never experienced #1, however #2 i have (but i guess it can make sense).

Man, we all live in the same area. I say we screw the Brampton people and form our own "up-town Toronto" club!

Then we can wage war against the east and west side GTA people. It'll be fun! Except we'll be fighting a war on two fronts. General Tso wouldn't approve, so we'll need to be extra vigilant!
