    Default GT-S rims peeling/bubbling!!!

    Hey all,

washed my car today, and noticed something nasty going on with my GT-S stock rims

every wheel is peeling and bubbling!!! i first noticed one big ass bubble on one of the spokes, i thought it was ice or dirt so i poked it and the paint came right off!! Then i checked my other wheels and there are smaller bubbles on ALL of them (mostly around the inner lip)

now i've seen enough rims to know that this is a huge defect!!

but has anyone else had this problem? and if so did Toyota do anything about it?
i know typical rims only warrenty for like a year or so, but i dunno with stock wheels
also who exactly do i call? the dealer i bought my car from or just toyota the company?

this totally sucks cause their all gonna peel like crazy and rust like madd!!
I'm already assuming toyota will do jack about it, so i hope they like getting their leased car back with rusted and peeled rims

i'd say file it with them so they can't call you on neglect at the end of the lease..
For your car you can choose, Speed, Reliability, Looks, you can have only 2.

actually lots of people have had this. I'd bring it back. Show them at least so its not some big surprise. They might do something about it

yes those rims will be covered under warranty, it was a big deal with the 2000 and 2001 celis, chemical problem with the laquer used in the finish caused bubbling. rims were replaced with newer ones from Japan.

if dealer gives you trouble, just call up Toyota Canada

    cool thanks all

who should i ask to speak to? a service advisor? or customer service?

i just called and all their service advisors are busy, and will supposedly call me back...but from my previous experience these guys are pretty much door stops...should i be calling for someone higher up?

first just call the dealership talk to "service" which is just the repair shop explain it and see what they say. Go from there. If the dealer is willing to fix it'll happen 10x quicker through them

Is it possible that the rim cleaner you use might have weakened the paint? I dunno.. just a possibility..

i actually never used anything special to clean the rims as i do know that they usually just end up eating the clear coat...they were only washed with car wash soap and a brush

anywayz, i went to toyota today and actually got good service!!!
i was so amazyed!! the service advisor which is typicall a total knob actually was very quick and actually called me back

i dropped by and he took a quick look at the rim and told me it was for sure a defect...classified under paint discoloration or somethign along those lines
i'm going in first thing tomorrow, their going to take off my wheels and send them in for repair, supposedly 4 days...so i'll be slapping on the summers to drive the car home and store it untill the rims are fixed

hopefully the service will remain good (ie, i will get them back early next week without any problems)

so if anyone else has this problem get it check out asap, he did ask my mileage cause i think it's only covered to a certian point
